'Coaching for me is a safe zone, it allows you to test things safely. You test things in a way which is non-destructive. That's a bit like my work life - we write and develop applications; put them into a dead zone; test them a bit; then move them into user-acceptance and test them a bit; and only then will we put them live. Coaching is a bit like that for me, it's actually about allowing me to go through that whole development and UAT process nice and safely. It doesn't matter if it doesn't go right, doesn't matter if I say the wrong thing, because it's allowing me to test it and rehearse it and refine it before I move it over into the live zone: in other words dealing with the people that I deal with every day, that I've rehearsed it and practised it and I know it works.'
