I was looking for a chapter title about how to create great presentations. My ideas were sensible, worthy - and dull.

Listen to Yourself

I discussed this with a colleague. "I want words that express what people feel about presentations. You know how they say 'I hate presentations, hate preparing them, hate going to them."
Then it hit me: that was the title "I Hate Presentations."

Listen to the World

I wondered if I could base a workshop on these words. I offered it to my network and immediately got lots of interest.

Listen to Others

The first times I ran the course, I asked participants to help design it. They offered superb ideas. Each subsequent course got higher approval ratings.

The Power of Listening
This experience reminded me forcefully of the power of listening. In particular:
1) Listen to yourself. When you speak, ask yourself 'What am I trying to tell me?
2) Listen to the world. What is it trying to tell you?
3) Listen to others. What are they trying to tell you?
Act on the information your listening delivers, and your success will soar. Email me if you'd like a guide to listening.
